If you ain’t dead, you ain’t done

The writing has been on the wall for a long time. Movement is life, life is movement. Many biological functions in your body are dependent on movement, especially your brain’s development and continual “tuning”. Your brain began developing in the womb, first, through your mother’s movement, then later, through your own. Movement physically changes your brain and enables it to function better. Why do you think movement, play, and restlessness are so inherent to children?

The perseverance of a 67-year-old marathon runner

Running a marathon is hard for any human being. Novice or elite athlete. It requires months of training and a willingness to push through 26.6 miles of pain and exhaustion with the reward of having someone put a medal around your neck. It’s an endeavor that most people have zero desire to undertake. However the process and experience is a commonality that all marathoners share regardless of their age or skill level.

The exquisiteness of equine

Take some time to explore SLO County from the saddle

The world is a beautiful place from the back of a horse. When riding, all troubles go out the window and life is suddenly simple. San Luis Obispo County has a rich and diverse equestrian community. Whatever your discipline, there is something here for you. And while we might speak different “horse languages”, it’s important to realize and remember we share the same love of horses.

SLO athlete hikes the 500-mile Camino de Santiago through Spain

I may be the first person in history to take a 500-mile hike to heal aching feet. I’d been sidelined from running for nearly a year with tendinitis, but I could walk.  I imagined the Camino as a ”consolation prize” for all the races and adventure runs I was missing.

The Camino turned out to be the grand prize. Quite simply, it was the happiest month of my life.

If you’re looking for a marathon vacation, Paso Robles wine country is the place for you.

It’s the perfect mix of good scenery, good weather and local attractions. The Paso Robles Harvest Marathon is returning for its third year on Sunday, October 28th. It includes a 5k and half-marathon relay.

I ran the course the first two years. It is stunningly beautiful. The race starts out at Le Vigne Winery on the east side and begins a series of short hills to the halfway mark. Local volunteers from cheerleaders to girl scouts show up at the water stations to cheer you on.

Paso Robles Rugby Club seeking more players

Paso Robles Rugby Football Club

Gary Brown loves rugby. For years he commuted from Paso Robles to Arroyo Grande after work to play for the Northern California Rugby Football Union. Tired of traveling to Arroyo Grande, Gary and fellow rugby athlete Larry Dorrough founded the Paso Robles Rugby Football Club in summer 2009. Brown says there are three divisions according to skill that comprise the league. Division I, II, and III separated by skill level. Being a new team the Paso Robles club competes in the union's Division III club, comprised of teams from Arroyo Grande, Aptos, Pleasant Hill, and San Francisco.

Health starts here: The Natural Alternative Nutrition Center will get you feeling great

To ‘be healthy’ is more than being a specific weight. It’s more than just staving off disease or illness. Healthy is waking up before the morning alarm clock rings and making it through a full work-day, without an afternoon coffee or energy drink. Being healthy is about feeling healthy all day, everyday; to have the energy to do the activities you enjoy.
