Racing in the vines

Annual fundraiser benefits Paso Robles schools & youth organizations

Scott Bauhs of San Luis Obispo won the Wine Country Run Half Marathon on March 23 and earned his weight in Paso Robles wine.

The fundraising event drew hundreds or runners to Paso Robles to race through the vines and rolling hills on the north east side of town. It started and ended at River Oaks Hot Springs and took runners and walkers on a mostly-paved course over rolling hills, through picturesque vineyards and down along the Salinas River. There were almost 1,000 runners registered for the half marathon and 5K combined.

Celebrating its 18th year, Wine Country Run is a non-profit event, entirely conducted by volunteers, that raises money for local schools and youth organizations. Last year, the races raised about $20,000, organizers said. When monies are totaled this year, it is hoped the event brings in around $30,000.
